A Message from the President: Building Financial Literacy for a Stronger Texas
As I reflect on the progress and challenges in advancing financial literacy across Texas, one thing is clear: the need for financial education has never been greater. At Neighborhood CU Foundation, our mission is rooted in the belief that financial wellness is a cornerstone of a thriving community. Yet, the reality for many Texans tells a different story.
Recent studies reveal that nearly half of Texans live paycheck to paycheck, and a significant percentage lack access to basic financial education resources. These gaps disproportionately affect young adults, underserved communities, and those navigating the complexities of financial systems for the first time. This is why our foundation’s work—improving access to financial education, raising awareness about financial literacy, and promoting wellness strategies—is so critical.
Programs such as our “Her Money” financial content and videos on social media, ongoing financial webinars, and BUDGETWIDGET, an interactive platform designed to add an element of fun and competition to budgeting are all helping us to make meaningful strides in this work during 2024.
In 2025, we’re doubling down on initiatives that equip Texans with the tools and knowledge to take charge of their financial futures. Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and credit unions, we aim to meet people where they are, delivering tailored solutions that address real-life challenges. Whether it’s teaching budgeting basics, offering free credit counseling, or empowering young people to start investing early, our programs are designed to create meaningful, lasting impact.
We cannot do this alone. Achieving financial literacy for all Texans requires a collective effort. I invite you to join us—whether as a volunteer, donor, or advocate—in shaping a future where every Texan has the skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions. Together, we can close the gaps, break cycles of financial insecurity, and create pathways to prosperity for all.
Thank you for your continued support and shared commitment to this vital cause.
With gratitude,
Carolyn Jordan President, Neighborhood CU Foundation
